The Digital Media Leadership program is preparing creative leaders for the challenges facing the media industry. The program offers a variety of cutting-edge courses, outstanding faculty, media industry events, and internship opportunities that prepare students for careers in Iowa and beyond. Students develop media management strategies and entrepreneurial skills for producing, distributing, marketing and monetizing digital media content across platforms.
Each year the Media Leadership program offers exciting opportunities to meet industry executives and interact with the movers and shakers in the media business.
Each spring, a select group of Media Leadership students participates in the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas. Students attend the many industry panel discussions and workshops, and view demonstrations and displays from hundreds of media companies on the gigantic exhibition floor. They also attend the NAB Career Fair and learn about a wide spectrum of job opportunities in the media industry.
The Media Leadership Internship program matches students with member stations from the Iowa Broadcasters Association throughout the state. Media Leadership Interns are offered broad exposure to the business of radio and television, emphasizing many managerial aspects, including sales and advertising relations, programming (production and acquisition), marketing and promotions, financial issues, and station development of Internet and social media initiatives. Media Leadership Interns receive scholarships upon successful completion of their summer internships.
Digital Media Leadership also offers a minor.
Students majoring in Media Leadership are eligible for renewable scholarships, and for Media Leadership Internships that provide additional scholarships. Both are made possible through the generous support of the Iowa Broadcasters Association, and many Media Leadership students benefit from the financial support. The deadline for scholarships is in February.
The scholarship recipients must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours in Digital Media Leadership coursework for the semesters in which the scholarship is received.
