Talk: Feminist Personal Narratives & Digital Platforms

Posted on Monday, October 25th, 2021
Interactive Digital Studies Professor Bettina Fabos will speak about "Feminist Personal Narratives & Digital Platforms" at 12 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2021 at the ScholarSpace in Rod Library.

Fabos will introduce three feminist digital projects from 30 years of digital video and website production: Lessons (1991, detailing sexual harassment during a violin lesson); Proud & Torn: A Visual Memoir of Hungarian History (2017, featuring the overlooked narrative of Fabos’ Hungarian aunt), and Fortepan Iowa (2020), a rich archival platform of Iowa family snapshots that encourages a rewriting of Iowa history that includes stories about rural women, LGBTQ people, and the disenfranchised.

The talk is part of the 2021-22 SWAG (Sexuality, Women & Gender) Forum, sponsored by the University of Northern Iowan Women's & Gender Studies program.
