UNI Forensics Team Starts Spring Season
UNI Forensics is back in gear after the holiday break. At this point in the season, the team has won 83 team and individual awards, and we 6 AFA qualified events in speech.
The debate team competed at the Texas Swing, two tournaments hosted by the University of Texas-Dallas and the University of North Texas. In the highly competitive field of 80 varsity teams, Allie Chase and Thomas Casady cleared at both tournaments. At UNT, Allie and Thomas lost in the double octas (top 32 teams) to tournament champions, Oklahoma. At UT-D, Allie and Thomas won their double octas round against 11th seed Wayne State (MI), but lost to 6th seed North Texas in their octas round (top 16 teams). Allie and Thomas will travel with the rest of the squad to Augustana College at the end of the month to compete at the Viking Invitational.
On the speech side, the team is getting ready to travel to Texas for Hell Froze Over, a national tournament held at the University of Texas-Austin. They will face the best speech competition in the country at this two-day tournament. Next weekend, UNI Forensics will be co-hosting the Iowa Swing tournament with Wartburg College. The Henderson Invitational will be held on the UNI campus on Saturday, January 21st. We look forward to hosting schools from Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska to our tournament.
